Important Notes regarding the Difference Between Natural Waters & Tap Water

Even the best drinking water is far from being suitable aquarium water. In order to use it as a habitat for fish and plants in the aquarium, the water must be treated accordingly. The Dupla water treatment system offers the necessary elements to make optimum aquarium water out of regular tap water.

Today we have a good knowledge of the composition of water and its inorganic substances. For every aquarist it is easy to learn of the composition of their drinking water and aquarium water. The Dupla fertilisation system and CO2 system, offer all possibilities to provide optimum water conditions for fish and plants.

Problem: organic substances

It is different with organic substances in the aquarium water. So far, very little is known about their significance for fish and plants in the aquarium. As organic substances are difficult to identify, they are still not given the importance they deserve. However, it is a proven fact that many organic substances in the tropical biotopes are of great importance for the entire biology of fish.

Meanwhile, many organic substances that are found in natural waters - especially in the tropics - have been identified. Amongst others, these are the amino acids, carbohydrates, vitamins, humic acids, fulvic acid, lignin's, pectin's, enzymes and many more. The compounds result from different processes, e.g. release of photosynthesis products from algae and waterplants, and products from bacteria. Furthermore, humic substances resulting from incomplete decomposition of plant leaves, are also released into the water. In tropical waters, fallen leaves etc are also an important source of organic substances.

The Solution: Duplagan - with Iodine Active Formula

In co-operation with acknowledged biologists and scientists, Dupla developed the product Duplagan. Duplagan enriches thewater with organic substances that serve as natural protection for the skin of fish. The idea for the product Duplagan was to make the organic substances of tropical waters available for aquaria. Therefore Duplagan mainly consists of cellulose derivatives with the addition of other substances that are found in tropical waters.

KH + & KH/GH+

For increased water stability, Dupla offers two products. These products improve the chemical stability of the aquarium water. Dupla KH+ increases the carbonate hardness, and Dupla KH/GH+ increases the carbonate and total hardness in equal proportions.

Dupla Biokaskade

The Dupla Biokaskade has been especially developed for the trickle filter system. It consists of an ingenious plastic framework with a particularly large and effective surface area of over 20,000 mm2 per sphere. It is so designed that extensive bacterial cultures are able to colonise the Biokaskade without clogging, or reduction of the area, as happens with fine textured filter elements. Aside from trickle filters, the Dupla Biokaskade can also be used in submerse (wet) filters. Required volume: 2-5% of the aquarium water. If a suitable pre-filter is utilized and cleaned regularly, the Biokaskade filter is able to function continuously as an 'eternal filter' without maintenance. Bacterial cultures which have grown excessively, slough off and are flushed away. The filter is self-cleaning.

Dupla Minikaskade

Filter media for biological filtration. The Dupla Minikaskade has been specifically designed for use in closed filter systems, e.g. canister filters. It has an extremely large surface of 3900 mm2 per sphere, and due to its small dimension and optimum space utilization, the Minikaskade provides full efficiency for small filter systems.

Dupla Carbon

Highly active Dupla Carbon, is a filter carbon especially developed for use in aquaria. The raw materials for this product are very rich in carbon. It is produced and activated in a special, time-intensive process. Dupla Carbon high-performance activated charcoal, possesses an inner surface area of approximately 540,000 m2 per litre of carbon, therefore guaranteeing an optimum speed of absorption.

Dupla Float switch

The Dupla Floatswitch is a water level monitoring device control of automatic water change and other water level controlled functions. It is able to switch pumps directly.

Dupla Vario

The Dupla Vario valve can be employed either as a three-way valve or as a control valve for water flow. Possible areas of application are for example, the connection of CO2 reactors, calcium reactors and other installations which need additional water flow. Thanks to the ample choice of different hose adaptors, an exceptionally wide range of possible connections may be implemented

Dupla TurboMini

Multifunctional submergible pump as a replacement for Dupla CO2 Set Omega and for Dupla CO2 Reaktor 400 not connected to the filter, as a filter pump, as a flow pump, of waterfalls and fountains.
